Ninh Binh Travel Guide: Conquering Mua Cave & Best Recovery Tips

Ninh Binh Travel Guide: Conquering Mua Cave & Best Recovery Tips

Hello travelers! It’s the team from Rosie’s Magical Spa here. 👋

Every day at our spa at 56 Hang Hom, guests ask us the same question: “If I have one day to explore outside of Hanoi, where should I go?”

Our answer is always the same: Ninh Binh Tours

Known as “Halong Bay on Land,” it is breathtakingly beautiful. So, the Rosie team decided to take a day off from our massage chairs to experience it ourselves. And let us tell you: The views are incredible, but the “workout” is real! 😉

Here is our honest experience and guide for you.

1. The “Halong Bay on Land” Vibe

Just a 2-hour drive from Hanoi, Ninh Binh feels like a different world. Gone is the honking of motorbikes, replaced by the sound of birds and rowing oars. It is green, peaceful, and absolutely majestic.

The majestic beauty of Trang An – a UNESCO World Heritage site often called “Halong Bay on Land.” A true detox for the soul.

2. Two Stops You Cannot Miss (But Prepare Your Legs!)

If you are on a day trip, don’t try to do too much. We recommend focusing on these two highlights:

🛶 Trang An: The Relaxing Boat Ride

This is the “chill” part of the trip. You sit on a small bamboo boat rowed by a local lady (who is incredibly strong!). You will glide through dark water caves and past ancient temples. It is magical.

  • Rosie’s Tip: Bring a hat and sunscreen! You will be on the water for about 2-3 hours with no shade.

🐉 Mua Cave (Hang Mua): The Ultimate “Leg Day”

Here comes the challenge. To get that famous Instagram photo with the stone dragon overlooking the valley, you have to climb nearly 500 stone steps.

We are not going to lie—halfway up, our legs were shaking! But once you reach the top of Lying Dragon Mountain, the cool breeze hits you, and you see the entire Tam Coc valley below. It is absolutely worth every drop of sweat.

3. Fueling Up: What to Eat?

You can’t leave Ninh Binh without trying Goat Meat (Thit De). It’s the local specialty. We had it served with Burnt Rice (Com Chay)—it’s crispy, savory, and delicious. It’s the perfect meal to refuel after the hike.

4. The Aftermath: How to Save Your Tired Legs 🦶

On the bus ride back to Hanoi, the adrenaline wore off, and reality set in. Our calves were tight, our feet were sore, and our backs were stiff from the car ride.

That is when we truly appreciated what we do for a living! 😂

If you have just returned from conquering Mua Cave and are walking stiffly around the Old Quarter, come straight to massage spa – rosie’s magical. You have earned a treat.

  • 🌿 Herbal Foot Soak: We start by soaking your feet in a warm herbal blend to boost circulation.

  • 💆‍♀️ Foot Reflexology: Our therapists will expertly massage away the tension in your calves and feet, making sure you are ready to walk again tomorrow.

Don’t let sore muscles ruin the rest of your Vietnam trip. Let us take care of you, so you can wake up fresh for your next adventure to Halong Bay or Ha Giang!
